ICAR-Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute celebrated its Annual Day on July 2nd, 2024! We were honored to have Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary DARE and DG (ICAR), as our Chief Guest. Dr. S.K. Chaudhari, DDG (NRM), delivered the 34th Nehru Memorial Lecture on "Natural Resources Management for Ecosystem Sustainability." The event was graced by Dr. R.C. Agrawal, DDG (Agricultural Education), other ADGs from Council, former Directors of ICAR-IASRI, the Director of NIAP, and IASRI staff and students.

ICAR-IASRI New Delhi celebrated International Day of Yoga 2024 on June 21, 2024 with the theme “Yoga for Self and Society” to achieve the objective of “Yoga for humanity and Peace”. The focus of the session was aimed to focus on “Balanced Nutritional Diet” for healthy lifestyle including eating and behavioural habits. In this regard, nutrition expert Dr Sugeeta Mutreja, BAMS, DNHE, MBA(HA) who is also running Aarogya Clinic: Diet and Nutrition delivered a lecture and also clarified the doubts of the participants. The session covered the usefulness of Yoga, Pranayam and eating habits(s) including type of food intake and schedule. The session was chaired by our Dr Rajender Parsad, Director, ICAR-IASRI, New Delhi who emphasized the importance of Yoga and its genesis of the celebration and practice of yoga with special mention of maintaining mental and physical health with positive attitude in life and power of subconscious mind. Program started with invocation Mantra “ॐ संगच्छध्वं संवदध्वं सं वो मनासि जानताम, देवा भागं यथा पूर्वे सञ्जनाना उपासते” with aims and objectives of Yoga including common yoga protocol. Further, the usefulness of the Yoga and importance of diets for the wellbeing of people and the society and achieve the objective of slogan “तन स्वस्थ तो मन स्वस्थ”. The program was attended by more than 110+ participants comprised with Scientists, Technical Personnel, Administrative personnel and contractual employees working in the institute. In addition to this, the staff of the institute also participated in the programme organized on June 21, 2024 from 7:30 AM at Multipurpose Hall, Bharat Ratna C. Subramanian Auditorium NASC Complex New Delhi under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Union Agriculture Minister. The session was concluded with Sankalp and Path “सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः सर्वे सन्तु निरामया। सर्वे भद्राणि पश्यन्तु मा कश्चित् दुःखभाग् भवेत्” with a message “योग करें, रोज करें, स्वस्थ रहें और सुरक्षित रहें”.

As National Statistics Day, celebrated on June 29th, is approaching, ICAR-IASRI is preparing to welcome the big day with enthusiasm and positivity. To celebrate this occasion, pre-celebrations started today (12.06.2024) morning with some exciting events. The festivities started at around 9:30 AM today with “THE FLASHMOB-MOB MOMENTUM” performance by the students of ICAR-IASRI followed by “CAMERA QUEST”. The presence of Honourable DDG (Education) Dr. R.C. Agrawal and Director ICAR-IASRI Dr. Rajender Parsad alongwith high spirited participation of students, faculty and staff made the event a grand success.

The inaugural session of the 21 days CAFT programme on “Development of AI based Android Applications in Agriculture” was held online on 05 March 2024. Dr Rajender Parsad, Director, ICAR-IASRI, New Delhi was the chief guest of the session. A total of 35 scientists/teaching faculties from ICAR Institutes/Agricultural Universities of diverse background (19 different disciplines) are participating in the training programme. The participants represent 17 states (based on their sponsoring organizations), and out of 35 participants, 24 are male and 11 are female. This training programme is designed to upgrade the professional capabilities of scientists and teaching faculties of ICAR institutes and the Agricultural Universities by providing the know-how on development of Android-based mobile application. This training program will facilitate the participants in acquiring knowledge on designing and developing Android mobile app, Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) techniques and how to integrate these ML & DL based models into the Android app. The participants will be having exposure on the fundamentals of Android application, front-end development of Android app, JAVA & Python Programming language, Machine Learning techniques, Ensemble techniques, Artificial Neural Network, Deep Learning & Convolutional Neural Network, development of APIs using Python and integration of APIs in Android app. The practical aspects of these topics will also be covered in details. This training programme is coordinated by Dr Soumen Pal and co-coordinated by Dr Chandan Kumar Deb and Dr. Md. Ashraful Haque.

Inauguration of 21 days training programme on “Advanced Forecasting Techniques in Agriculture Science Research” (January 24, 2024 to February 13, 2024) organized under the aegis of Centre of Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT) sponsored by Education Division, ICAR, New Delhi.

Greetings on 75th Republic Day. ICAR-IASRI celebrated 75th Republic Day. Students presented a mesmerizing cultural programme (Patriotic Songs, Poems, Dance) on the Occasion. On this National Festival, all resolved to take pride in our past achievements and make every possible effort to progress further.

21 days training programme on “Statistical and Computational Advances for Bioinformatics Data Analysis in Agriculture: Practical Aspects” (January 02 – 22, 2024) was successfully organized under the aegis of Centre for Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT) sponsored by Education Division, ICAR, New Delhi. The valedictory function was held under the Chairmanship of Director, ICAR-IASRI.

Under the Swachhta Special Campaign a debate competition was organized at Dr Daroga Singh Auditorium on 12.10.23. The topic of the debate was “Time spent on Swachhta mission is time well spent". Dr Achal Lama was the host and Dr A K Paul and Dr Parwin Arya were the judges.

10 days online training programme “Omics Data Analysis: Genome to Proteome” was successfully organized during October 09-18, 2023, under the project ICAR-Consortium Research Platform on Genomics, funded by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. The valedictory function of the training programme was held under the Chairmanship of Dr. Rajender Parsad (Director, ICAR-IASRI) in the presence of Dr. Vindhya Mohindra (PI, Consortium Research Platform on Genomics). Dr. Girish Kumar Jha (Head, Division of Agricultural Bioinformatics) was the Course Director and, Dr. Sudhir Srivastava and Dr. Sneha Murmu were the Course Coordinators of the training programme. The word of thanks was given by Dr. Anu Sharma, PI of the project at ICAR-IASRI. There were 50 participants from various SAUs and ICAR institutes covering 9 states of the country.

Institute celebrated 77th Independence Day (76 Years of Independence) on August 15, 2023. Dr. Rajender Parsad, Director, ICAR-IASRI hoisted the flag in the Institute Campus. A cultural programme was organized by the students, staff members and children of staff members on the occasion. The staff and students of the Institute also took Panch Pran Pledge on the Day.

ICAR-IASRI showcased the research and application of ICT in the Agriculture, viz. Kisan Sarathi- An ICT based Agriculture Extension Platform, AI DISC- AI enabled Plant Disease Identification System etc., at the India Mobile Congress, 27-29 October 2023, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi under the banner of Indian council of Agricultural Research and Department of Agriculture Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

ICAR-IASRI organized an Online Workshop on Statistical Methods of Data Integration in Agricultural Sciences on November 07, 2023. ICAR-IASRI observing the Vigilance Awareness Week (30 October-5th November 2023). A Webinar was organised jointly with ICAR-NIMR, Hyderabad. Mr. Somnath, Under Secretary (Vigilance), ICAR delivered the talk on the topic “CCS (CCA) Rules 1965”

Campus wide cleaning activity was organized on 31.10.23 under the aegis of Swachhata Special Campaign 3.0. A valedictory function was also organized. Dr Bimlesh Mann, ADG (EP&HS) was the Chief Guest. She planted a sapling in IASRI Campus and addressed the staff on the occasion. Dr Rajender Parsad, Director, Dr Monendra Grover, Chairman, Institute Swachhata Committee and Sh. Sanjay Bokolia, Head of Office, also addressed the staff. The event ended with a vote of thanks by Dr Sukanta Dash, Secretary, Institute Swachhata Committee.

One-Day Virtual Workshop on Farmer FIRST Programme (FFP Portal and Mobile App) has been organized on January 12, 2023 at ICAR-IASRI. More than 130 participants have attended the workshop. The demonstrations were made on FFP Portal and Mobile App by Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Dr. Anshu Bharadwaj and Dr. Soumen Pal from ICAR-IASRI. Dr. V.P. Chahal, ADG (Agri Extn.) graced the event. He appreciated the efforts made by ICAR-IASRI FFP team and appealed all FFP Centres to upload and update timely information in the portal for its enrichment. Dr. Rajender Parsad, Director, ICAR-IASRI joined the programme and provided his valuable suggestions for betterment of the portal as well as the mobile app. Dr. S.R.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-ATRAI, Jabalpur and Dr. P. P. Rohilla, Nodal Officer FFP, ICAR-ATARI, Jodhpur also emphasized on timely information uploading in the portal for the benefits of stakeholders.

Training Program on Operationalization and Usage of Agri-DIKSHA Web Education Channel

Dr. Maxwell Mkondiwa — Associate Scientist – Spatial Economist, CIMMYT , New Delhi was invited at ICAR-IASRI to deliver the talk on “Towards Personalized Agro-Advisories: Causal Machine Learning and Spatial Bayesian Modelling Insights from the Landscape Diagnostic Survey (LDS)” on 19 May 2023.

The 4th Indian Workshop on Applied Deep Learning(IWADL), hosted at Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani K K Birla Goa campus from June 12-16, 2023, was organized jointly by BITS Pilani, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi and ICAR-Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute (ICAR-IASRI) in blended learning format. Professor Phalguni Gupta, Vice Chancellor, GLA University; Dr. Rajender Parsad Director ICAR-IASRI, New Delhi; Dr. Navneet Goyal, Head, Computer Science Engineering Department, BITS Pilani; Dr. Aditya Nigam, Head, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Department, IIT Mandi; Dr. Kamlesh Tiwari, BITS Pilani and Convenor of IWADL 2023 and Dr. Sudeep Marwaha, PI NAHEP Component 2, ICAR-IASRI expressed their views about the importance of IWADL worhshop and National Agricultural Research and Education Sysyem-Blended Learning Platform (NARES BLP) during the inagural session. NARES-BLP enabled the researchers, experts, and enthusiasts in the field of deep learning to explore and learn the subject in a cohesive environment. Prominent researchers from various esteemed institutions and companies, including IIT Mandi, IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad, BITS Pilani, Harman DTS, Fujitsu, and Sahaj AI ffocuses on the application of deep learning architectures such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs), Autoencoders, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), Transformers, Diffusion models, and more. These architectures have shown great potential in addressing a wide range of problems in diverse domains such as agriculture, healthcare, finance, transportation, education, manufacturing, and entertainment. The organization of IWADL’23 coupled with the ICAR Blended Learning Platform (BLP) platform brought 90+ online and 100+ physical participants together. Following are some of the highlights of the workshop: Total of 13 Nos of Trainer and 229 Nos of Learner Registered on the Main tenant of ICAR BLP ( https://icarblp.krishimegh.in) For five days, 90+ Participants attended virtual/online classes of the IWADL workshop 2023 using the ICAR BLP platform. Three Assessments ( Quiz 1 , 2 and 3) were successfully conducted over the ICAR BLP platform. 190+ Participants successfully attempted assessment over the ICAR BLP platform. Customisation Email sent for all users for registration purposes. Throughout the workshop, optimal and flawless video-conferencing performance was observed. IWADL workshop Feedback taken via ICAR BLP Platform. Learners expressed their satisfaction on the topics covered and practical exercises given to understand the actual applications of deep learning. Dr. Suman Kundu, Director BITS Pilani K K Birka Campus was the chief guest during the valedictory session. He shared his happiness to be associated as host institution for the workshop and emphasized greater collaboration among the participating institutions.
